Research

My research encompasses the areas of: artificial intelligence, cognitive science, and human-computer interaction. Of particular focus are basic topics in:
  • knowledge representation and reasoning
  • spatial cognition and computation
  • visual perception
  • cognitive interaction systems
  • design cognition and computation
  • multimodality and interaction
  • evidence-based studies (of human behaviour)
  • communications & media studies (moving image / visuo-auditory narrativity)
E.g., recent publications are on:
  • Spatial Representation and Reasoning
  • Learning Visuo-Spatial Representations
  • Reasoning about Space and Change
  • Non-Monotonic Reasoning
  • Qualitative Reasoning
  • Declarative programming (e.g., with Constraint Logic Programming, Answer-Set Programming)
  • Semantic Q/A with Visual Imagery
  • Eye-Tracking
  • Computational Models of Narrative
  • Cognitive Modelling of Visuo-Spatial Cognition
  • Cognitive Media (e.g., Film) Studies
  • Semantic GIS; Geospatial Dynamics
  • Wayfinding, hospital design

Research projects and related activities may be consulted here:
CoDesign / Cognition. AI. Interaction. Design.
We are building new research initiatives in collaboration with European and international colleagues:

  • CoDesign EU / www.codesign-lab.eu
  • Priority areas: Artificial Intelligence / Spatial Cognition and Computation / Cognitive Science and Psychology / Human-Computer Interaction / Design Science.

Most recently, CoDesign 2017 was organised comprising of a series of mutually complementary events in the areas of artificial intelligence, spatial cognition, psychology, design computing and cognition, creativity, multimodality, communication and media, and human-behaviour studies (also related is: International School HCC 2016).
